Tree donation to the city of Philadelphia
In the spring of 2007, Hurricane Kyrill caused massive damage in Germany. In the city of Krefeld alone, over 3000 trees were destroyed. Krefeld is the city from which the first 13 German families emigrated to America 325 years ago arriving at Philadelphia October 6, 1683.
A delegation from the German Society of Pennsylvania visited the city of Krefeld in May of this year to celebrate the departure of these first German settlers 325 years ago. Along with official greetings from Mayor Michael Nutter, the German Society brought with them a tree to be donated to hurricane-damaged Krefeld and planted there on Philadelphia Street. Following Hurricane Kyrill, an initiative, 3333 Trees for Krefeld – "3333bäumefürkrefeld", had been started in the city. Now this initiative is reciprocating by donating a tree to the city of Philadelphia.
At 10:15 on October 6, 2008, a tree will be handed over by Bernd Scheelen, member of German parliament and Mayor of Krefeld to the German Society who will ensure that the tree finds a home next spring in the Pastorius Park in Germantown. This oak tree, Krefeld’s ecological ambassador, demonstrates the importance of planting more trees to preserve and protect the climate of our planet.

Baum für Philadelphia
Nachdem eine Delegation der Deutschen Gesellschaft von Pennsylvania beim Besuch in Krefeld einen Baum spendete, hat sich Krefeld nun revanchiert. Die Initiative „3333 Bäume für Krefeld" spendete jetzt ebenfalls einen Baum für die Stadt Philadelphia. Bernd Scheelen, Bürgermeister der Stadt Krefeld und Mitglied des Deutschen Bundestages übergab jetzt eine Eiche an die Deutsche Gesellschaft. Diese wird sicherstellen, dass der Baum im kommenden Frühjahr ein neues Zuhause im Pastorius Park in Germantown/Philadelphia findet. Bernd Scheelen: "Diese Eiche, als Krefelds ökologische Botschafterin, zeigt die Wichtigkeit des Pflanzen von weiteren Bäumen, um das Klima det. Erde zu erhalten und zu schützen."

Baumspende für die Stadt Philadelphia
Als eine Delegation der Deutschen Gesllschaft von Pennsylvania im Mai dieses Jahres Krefeld besuchte, brachten die Vertreter einen Baum mit – als Spende für das von Sturm Kyrill arg geschädigte Krefeld. Nun folgte die Revanche der als Folge des Sturms gegründeten Initiative "3333 Bäume für Krefeld" in Form eines Baumes für die Stadt Philadelphia. Dazu übergab Krefelds Bürgermeister und Bundestagsabgeordneter Bernd Scheelen eine Eiche an die Deutsche Gesellschaft, die im Pastorius Park in Germantown/ Philadelphia gepflanzt wird.
